2022-10-10 11:32:27

Make mental health & well-being for all a global priority

Every year on October 10, there is a celebration of world mental health day. Numerous initiatives are planned for this day to raise awareness of mental health problems, their impacts on those who are afflicted, and the lives of those who care for them. On the last day of the Mental Health Awareness Campaign Week campaign, which was started last year by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, World Mental Health Day is observed in India.

World Mental Health Day is a global day of education, advocacy, and de-stigmatization of mental illness. The World Federation for Mental Health, a global mental health organisation with members and contacts in more than 150 countries, spearheaded the first celebration in 1992.

We've been working to ensure that mental health receives the same attention as physical health for more than 70 years. Everybody is affected by the presence of mental health issues in our daily lives, families, workplaces, and communities. We must take every precaution to prevent mental illness, both as a society and as individuals. We will continue to urge national and local governments to give reducing factors that are known to put people's mental health at risk, enhancing factors that are known to protect it, and establishing conditions that will allow people to thrive top priority.

Additionally, World Mental Health Day provides an opportunity to discuss mental health in general, how to care for it, and how crucial it is to communicate problems and seek assistance when necessary.

What is the theme of World Mental Health Day 2022?

 2022?

Make mental health & well-being for all a global priority is the theme—actually, the tagline—for World Mental Health Day 2022. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, one in eight people worldwide experienced mental health problems. But there wasn't enough financial and structural support for mental health. The worldwide pandemic increased peoples' mental stress levels. The virus permanently changed people's lives. This stress has been exacerbated by recent armed conflicts between nations and acts of religious violence.

Why is World Mental Health Day celebrated?

Every year on October 10, people around the world observe World Mental Health Day to promote mental health education, awareness, and advocacy against social stigma.

According to a WHO report from 2022, anxiety and depression among people have increased by 25%.

The first World Mental Health Day was celebrated on October 10, 1992. The World Federation for Mental Health, a multilateral organisation with more than 150 member countries, spearheaded the initiative. Richard Hunter, the deputy secretary general, started the day.

Make mental health and wellbeing for all a global priority is the theme for this year.

Every year on this day, supporters of mental health come together around the world to celebrate the annual awareness campaign to raise awareness of mental illness and its significant negative effects on people's lives. Prior to World Mental Health Day, some countries also observe Mental Health Week.

Who is the father of mental health?

Rush' and 'Dr. Benjamin Rush' Review: American Hippocrates - WSJ

The "father of American psychiatry," Dr. Benjamin Rush, was the first to postulate that mental illness is a disease of the mind rather than being a "possession of demons." The first psychiatric textbook printed in the US was his classic work Observations and Inquiries upon the Diseases of the Mind, which was first published in 1812. In addition to being the father of modern psychiatry, Pinel was a renowned internal medicine educator. His breakthroughs in the treatment of mentally ill patients were so profound and moving that his theories are still used today. Pinel rejected the long-held belief that mental illness and demoniacal possession are synonymous, and instead saw mental illness as the result of prolonged exposure to social and psychological stressors, as well as, to some extent, hereditary and physiological defects.
