According to reports, Imran Khan, the former prime minister of Pakistan, was the target of a murder attempt. He was shot in the leg after his car was the target of gunfire.

The bullets were fired as Khan, who had been leading a march from Lahore to Islamabad since Friday to advocate for new elections after being ejected from government in April, was standing and waving to hundreds of applauding fans.

 

The shooting at the gathering injured at least five people, including Imran Khan. The lone attacker was immediately apprehended, but his name is still unknown. The "assassination" attempt on Imran Khan, who has been holding anti-government rallies across Pakistan, has not yet been attributed to any one organisation.

 

Shehbaz Sharif, the current prime minister, denounced the shooting and commanded a prompt probe. The incident was a "heinous assassination attempt," according to President Arif Alvi.

 

For the past seven days, Mr. Khan has led a protest march, the second such gathering this year, pushing for new elections.Elections will take place as scheduled next year, the government has frequently stated.Khan was barred from running for public office by Pakistan's election board last month in a case that the former All-Star cricketer said was politically motivated.

 

He had been charged with misdeclaring information about gifts from foreign dignitaries and the proceeds of their suspected sale. Rolex watches, a ring, and a set of cufflinks were among the gifts.
