The BJP suspended Telangana MLA T. Raja Singh from the party on August 23rd, just hours after he was arrested, for allegedly making controversial statements and inciting religious feelings of a particular religion.
Mr. Singh had expressed views contrary to the party's position on a number of issues, according to the letter signed by Om Pathak, Member Secretary, Central Disciplinary Committee, BJP.
Mr. Singh, the fiery BJP leader, allegedly posted a video on YouTube referencing a specific community and the recently concluded stand-up comedy show by Munawar Faruqui in Hyderabad. Mr. Singh allegedly made controversial remarks about Prophet Muhammad in the video, which has since been removed from the video uploading site.
After the video went viral, Hyderabad Police arrested Mr. Singh, and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeem (AIMIM) began protests in various parts of the city.
The BJP's disciplinary committee has also asked Mr. Singh to explain why he should not be expelled from the party by September 2.
Mr. Singh is the latest BJP leader to be embroiled in controversy over alleged remarks about the Prophet. Following a public outcry and condemnation from various Islamic nations, the BJP suspended Nupur Sharma and expelled Naveen Kumar Jindal from the party.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has suspended its MLA T Raja Singh for allegedly making a derogatory remark about Prophet Muhammad. The party has given him 10 days to respond and demonstrate why he should not be expelled.
"You have expressed views contrary to the Party's position on a number of issues, which is a clear violation of Rule XXV. 10 (a) of the Bharatiya Janata Party's constitution. I have been directed to inform you that, pending further investigation, you are suspended from the party and any responsibilities or assignments you may have, with immediate effect "According to Om Pathak, Member Secretary of the Central Disciplinary Committee.
